For over 15 years, the LESFF has celebrated all things punk and film. Their annual event in the heart of the Lower East Side features a week of curated films, panels and parties with a focus on diversity, originality, quality, and impact. Champions worked with the festival to design a custom typeface and brand identity that connects them closely to cinema and infuses a dose of the counterculture spirit that drives their work.
Type Design, Motion, Event The Lower East Side was the epicenter of counterculture in the 70s; the film festival identity system draws from the punk scene and underground film movement.
Kash hangs the letters on the Village East Cinema every week. The LESFF’s new custom typeface is his namesake.
Like the lettering, the 20-degree sheared angle used for type and shape comes from the iconic marquee of Village East.
